Lake Titicaca and La Paz

Stay: 5 nights

 Monday 1st May - Saturday 6th May

Hotel QuelQatini (Lake) Hotel Eldorado (La Paz)

The fourth week of Paul and Preetha's trip was split between Peru and Bolivia, much like Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 13,000ft above sea-level..

Covering over 8,000 square kilometres, the lake is home to the Uros, native people who use reeds to build boats, houses and even the islands upon which they live.

From the lake, they travelled to La Paz the hard way - see Paul's e-mail for details.

Situated in a natural canyon at 12,000ft, La Paz is the highest capital in the world; travelers landing at the airport on planes that took off at lesser altitudes are frequently struck down by altitude sickness.
